Employability Workshop – Customer Service Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council

During this visit the focus and main activities will be a workshop on communication and customer service along with team building.

Digital Awareness - Visa

The main activities are on the use of digital media.  Students will found out about its advantages and disadvantages – for individuals and for businesses.  Topics included networking, digital marketing, finding the right job, keeping safe on-line and managing your digital footprint.

GO4IT - Visa

Students have an insight into the company and are shown how it operates as a business. Students learn about different departments and the variety of services the company provides. They are able to speak with professionals about their careers in order to find out about job roles and opportunities in IT. Students take part in a variety of interactive activities, including a networking lunch. 

Step into Law – Phillips Solicitors

An event aimed at students who are considering a career in law, and will give a real insight into a range of opportunities in the sector. They will take part in a speed networking session with professionals and be given an overview of the various routes into legal careers.

Careers Day at Sea, Warsash

Students attend workshops/talks providing information on the various sectors as well as job profiles and career progression.  There will also be the opportunity to visit different exhibitors.

Basingstoke Modern Foreign Languages Challenge

Students work in teams of four to carry out business related tasks based on a specific theme.  All work produced during the day was in French or Spanish, prizes will be awarded to the winning teams.

Step into IT - Visa

SSE Thatcham Training Centre

Students take part in a guided tour of the training centre, a presentation from SSE staff within different business areas and practical exercises relevant to the industry.

Hard Drive into IT -ITECH

Students will have the opportunity to take part in some practical session throughout the morning and talk to apprentices and IT professionals.

AWE Y8 Female Engineering Challenge

The girls take part in a variety of engineering based challenges with prizes.  There will also be the opportunity to speak with the AWE Apprentices. 

Public Services/Sports Taster Session

Students will get an insight into the courses BCOT offer within the Public Services and Sports Department which incorporate team development and leadership and physical elements.

Airkix Science Trip

During this visit the focus will be the Physics behind skydiving, which is covered as part of the GCSE science course, and the trip will culminate with two flights in the wind tunnel, equivalent to almost three real tandem skydives from 12,000 feet!

Employability Workshop – De La Rue

During this visit the focus and main activities will be to introduce students to the workplace and the business world.  Students will take part in a variety of interactive activities and learn about the importance of employability skills.

Hampshire Cricket Press Day – Ageas Bowl

The main activities will be to introduce students to the workplace and the Journalism world.  Students will take part in a variety of interactive activities, learning the importance of working as a team to meet deadlines, about the different styles of writing and the life of being a sports journalist.

Drama Careers Trip – The Point Theatre

The Drama Department run a trip delivered at The Point Theatre, Eastleigh.  During the visit the focus and main activities will be providing students with career options and higher education opportunities in theatre and dance.  Throughout the day they will be involved in practical workshops and question and answer sessions from industry professionals.

Progression Evening

Hosted by the Basingstoke Consortium, letters to parents of Y9,10 & 11 students inviting them to the evening event.

QMC & BCOT Taster Days –Y10

Pupils will experience life at the college and learn about the appropriate pathways they are interested in.

Mock Interview Preparation & Mock Interview – Y10

Pupils will prepare a job application in which they will need to complete a CV, a covering letter and an application form to designated Job of interest. These will be then sent to an employer who will come in and interview the pupil for the job.

STEM – Science - Engineering Masterclass

Royal Engineering Masterclasses are a series of workshops which are led by experts from industry, academia and education. They offer students in-depth investigations of topics in science combining theory with interactive exploration. Workshops will be led by two AWE graduates each week, who will share their experience, expertise and passion through interactive project work.
