Subject Overview
BTEC Subjects: Health and Social Care, Engineering and SportÂ
BTEC Tech Awards have been specifically designed for 14-16 year olds and are assessed using assignments and practical tasks to suit students who learn through a> vocational context. BTEC qualifications are equivalent to GCSE’s and can be counted in the ‘open’ group for Progress 8. The grading criteria follows a Pass, Merit, Distinction format and assessment is conducted at level 1 and level 2 to recognise the achievements of all students.
These qualifications allow students to take responsibility for their own learning and develop skills which are essential for the workplace, such as teamwork, research skills and independent study. They enable students to apply the knowledge they have learned to real life contexts, making the transition from school to the workplace smoother. BTEC Tech Awards give students the opportunity to progress into further study including A Levels, BTEC National Diplomas, Apprenticeships, University and the workplace.
