Opened in September 1975, Bishop Challoner Catholic Secondary School is a mixed 11 – 16 school serving a wide area of North Hampshire. It is a voluntary aided day school founded by the Trustees of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portsmouth and is maintained by Hampshire Local Authority.
Our main feeder Primary Schools are St Anne’s, St Bede’s and St John the Baptist in the North Hampshire Pastoral Area. We have excellent links with all three schools and the parishes. In addition, students from a wider number of other Primary Schools are admitted to Bishop Challoner.
Bishop Challoner Catholic Secondary School is oversubscribed and seeks to support all members of the school community to grow and develop in a supportive Catholic community. We set and achieve high standards in all that we do and expect students to “do ordinary things, extraordinarily well.”
We have a strong Chaplaincy and Pastoral team to support students and families. We describe this central mission of our school as “Walking with each other”. Students are encouraged to participate in service and charitable activities and to take advantage of a wide range of extra-curricular visits and activities.
We set great store by excellent standards of uniform, behaviour and attitudes to work. We describe these expectations as “The Challoner Way”. We are exceptionally well supported by parents and carers. Students’ progress to local sixth form colleges, high quality employment and apprenticeships when they leave Bishop Challoner. Each year many students gain entry to Universities including Oxbridge and the Russell Group. Whatever the academic results of our students, we aspire for all of them to achieve their potential.
Music, Drama and PE are also dynamic elements of our school with regular school productions, chamber concerts, workshops and sports fixtures throughout the year. Students experience an exciting, often challenging all round education at Bishop Challoner. Everyone in the school community gives and expects a lot. We are proud of every one of our present and former students; if you visit us you will see these things in action.
